Mitsubishi Shogun is the best Japanese 4×4 by far?
The Mitsubishi Shogun is one of the most established Japanese 4×4 models; along with the Range Rover the Shogun introduced luxury to four wheel drive vehicles. Around the world the Shogun is known under various nameplates such as Pajero and Montero. Mitsubishi started production of the Shogun in 1982; it has always been a full size SUV.
The first generation Shogun was a short wheel based 3 door model that came with either a hard top roof or canvas roof. The Shogun was packed with features and technologies never seen before in a Japanese 4×4 vehicle. It had a turbocharged diesel engine, a front double wishbone suspension with torsion bar springs, power steering and suspension seats.
The second generation model was introduced in 1991 and was in production till 2000. The 1991 Shogun was an all new car from the ground up, it was bigger and available with 5 doors. The famous Pajero Evolution was introduced in 1997; it participated at the Paris – Dakar Rally. The second generation model was given a facelift in 1998; changes were made to the front wings, grill, bumpers and side steps.
The third generation Shogun was introduced in 1999; it again was a new car from top to tail. It has a lower and wider stance, adding a sporty look to it. The fourth generation was introduced in 2006, it is the current model. It comes with a 3.2 litre diesel engine that has plenty of grunt and power.
The 2012 Shogun has started to arrive in the UK; it is an evolution of the legendary Japanese SUV. The new Shogun comes with a much improved Euro 5 compliant engine. Like its predecessors the latest model comes as a three door short-wheel base or five door long wheel base.
The 2012 Mitsubishi Shogun will be available in four models for buyers; the SG2, SG3, SG4 and warrior. Features of the SG3 and SG4 include auto lights, auto wipers and privacy glass. The shogun is available in ‘diamond black’, ‘frost white’, graphite brown’, ‘orient red’ and ‘cool silver’.
Whilst researching the Mitsubishi Shogun, I have found out more about the history and appeal of this Mitsubishi model. Newer and more improved models have outshone their predecessors and built upon them to create a world class car. The Mitsubishi shogun is able to offer comfort and style with reliability under the Mitsubishi name.
